The Danger of Sitting Down

If you think you can offset long periods of sitting down either on the couch or in your office chair but working out, think again. As our society is getting in terms of technology, we have been sitting down longer because most of today's work involves sitting in an office chair infront of a computer. But this is a major problem since for almost all of human existence, physical labor was part of the daily work grind. This means that our bodies are not used to sitting down for long periods of time and this can lead to serious health problems. Such problems are depression, weight gain, weakened immune system, weaker bones and muscles. Not only that but when you go from sitting down all day to then jumping into a physical activity, your odds of injury increase too because of the relative strain you put your body to as compared to when it is simply just sitting down. Ways to combate this are simple, find ways to including standing, stretching, and walking into your day. If you can get a standing desk, then go for it (I certainly have and it's been great!). But if you must sit, try to stand up and walk around every half hour or so because small things like this can greatly help your overall health!
